2020 Grand Cherokee Performance and Towing vs Murano

There’s no doubt about it—the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Nissan Murano powertrains are built on a powerful foundation. In fact, both come standard with a V6 engine that generate more than 200 horsepower. You can get a good look at their engine specs in the table below:

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee

2020 Nissan Murano

Standard Engine

3.6L Pentastar® V6

3.5L V6

295 horsepower

260 horsepower

260 lb-ft

240 lb-ft

Max. V6 Towing Capacity

6,200 pounds

1,500 pounds

As you can see, both SUVs deliver plenty of engine-revving power. However, if you need to tow, the same engine in the Jeep allows you to haul 4,700 pounds than the Nissan when properly equipped. The Grand Cherokee can likely tow more because of the increased horsepower and torque. The Jeep also has the available Trailer Tow Group IV package with a Class IV hitch receiver and heavy-duty engine cooling.

If you need to tow even more, the Jeep Grand Cherokee offers three available V8 engines, as well. These produce 360, 475, and 707 horsepower, respectively, and can tow up to 7,200 pounds when properly equipped.

Unfortunately, the Murano doesn’t have any extra engine options for improved towing capacity.

Safety Technology: Jeep Grand Cherokee vs Nissan Murano

When you’re heading somewhere exciting and fun, you want to make sure you get there safely. You can drive confidently in either the Jeep Grand Cherokee or Nissan Murano because both come with available driver-assistive and smart safety technology features, like:

  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Smart cruise control
  • Rearview camera
  • Blind spot monitoring

When you reach your destination, both SUVs have available rear parking sensors that provide an audible warning if you get too close to the car behind you when parallel parking.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee takes this further with its available Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist feature. Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist provides an active guidance system that automatically steers you into a tricky parking space. Simply follow the prompts to shift, accelerate, and brake, and let your Jeep do the rest!

Without a similar feature available, drivers in the Nissan Murano may find parking in busy areas a bit more challenging than those in the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
